The Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi marked International Mother Language Day on Friday with a series of events throughout the day.
The observance began with acting High Commissioner Md Nurul Islam raising the national flag at the High Commission's premises, followed by the laying of a floral wreath at the Shaheed Minar to honor the language martyrs.
In the morning, two documentaries were screened, and statements from Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Foreign Advisor Touhid Hossain were read aloud.
The evening saw a cultural program organized by the High Commission, attended by officials from India's Ministry of External Affairs and diplomats from various foreign missions.
Acting High Commissioner Nurul Islam addressed the gathering, highlighting that the sacrifices of the language martyrs laid the groundwork for the 1971 independence war. "Let us all recognize the power of language in shaping our identity," Islam stated.
He also emphasized the significance of celebrating the day in India, where over 115 million people speak Bengali.
