Rooppur NPP: Turbine installed at the first unit

The installation of the turbine at the first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant has reached a significant milestone with the completion of its final stage.

The turbine set has been successfully placed on the barring gear, a crucial step for ensuring the proper alignment and balance of the turbine rotor during both start-up and shutdown.

This process prevents wear on the turbine components and ensures the safe and efficient operation of the plant.

During the tests, the turbine shaft was rotated at a slow speed, and control checks were carried out by experts to confirm the alignment's accuracy and the high quality of the turbine assembly.

Alexey Deriy, Vice President for Projects in Bangladesh at Atomstroyexport, emphasized the importance of this achievement: "The installation of the turbine at Rooppur NPP unit 1 has been completed successfully, marking a key step toward the physical start-up of the plant.”

“The turbine set placement on the barring gear and the successful control checks confirm the accuracy of the assembly and the reliability of the equipment. This accomplishment reflects the expertise of a highly skilled team and further underscores the reliability of Russian technologies," he said.

Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, Bangladesh’s first nuclear power facility, is being developed with Russia's technical and financial assistance.

The plant will feature two units, each with a 1,200 MWe capacity, using 3+ generation VVER 1200 reactors.

The first unit is now preparing for fuel loading and subsequent start-up. Rosatom Engineering Division serves as the general designer and contractor for the project.
