The inaugural expert panel discussion under the newly established BRICS Nuclear Platform was recently convened in China, bringing together officials and industry representatives from BRICS nations and partner countries to promote cooperation in nuclear energy for sustainable development and energy security.

The panel, titled “Key Factors Impacting the Development of Nuclear Power,” featured participants from China, Russia, Brazil, South Africa, Iran, and others, alongside representatives from international organizations such as the ASEAN Centre for Energy and the World Nuclear Association (WNA).

The discussion focused on new strategies for efficient nuclear energy resource allocation, current industry trends, and potential avenues for international collaboration.

Launched to foster corporate-level cooperation, the BRICS Nuclear Platform aims to position nuclear energy as a clean baseload electricity source while promoting advanced technologies for non-energy applications.

The session provided a platform for nuclear newcomer countries to gain insights into best practices and explore how nuclear technologies can address environmental and social challenges.

The event also highlighted the importance of mentorship in the industry.

“Young specialists in the nuclear industry need the support of experienced experts from countries with advanced technologies,” said Chen Xin, Deputy Director of the Uranium Resources Department at SNURDC, China.

“The session provided an opportunity for BRICS nuclear organizations to build relationships and initiate joint project development.”

Participants noted the untapped potential for expanded collaboration within the BRICS framework, especially in advancing nuclear technology and infrastructure development.

The next expert panel session is scheduled for May 21, 2025, in Brazil, held on the sidelines of the Nuclear Trade and Technology Exchange (NT2E) exhibition and conference.
