Bangladesh’s new High Commissioner presents credentials to Indian President

Ambassador M. Riaz Hamidullah, the newly appointed High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, formally presented his credentials to the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, at a ceremonial event held at Rashtrapati Bhavan this afternoon.
President Murmu warmly welcomed Ambassador Hamidullah and reaffirmed the enduring and historic ties between India and Bangladesh.
Highlighting the shared legacy of the 1971 Liberation War, she said, “We envision a democratic, stable, prosperous, and inclusive Bangladesh.”
The President emphasized the importance of strengthening regional connectivity and pursuing a vision of shared prosperity.
She also congratulated Bangladesh on assuming the chairmanship of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) for the next two years.
Ambassador Hamidullah, a veteran career diplomat, took charge in New Delhi on April 14, 2025, coinciding with the Bangla New Year, succeeding Ambassador Mustafizur Rahman.
During the credentials ceremony, the High Commissioner conveyed greetings from the President and people of Bangladesh and expressed his commitment to deepening the multifaceted bilateral relationship.
He underlined the need to build stronger links between the youth populations of both countries, who form the largest demographic segments.
Prior to his current assignment, Ambassador Hamidullah served as Secretary (West & Multilateral) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka.
Over a distinguished diplomatic career spanning three decades, he has held key assignments including Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and to Sri Lanka, and postings at Bangladesh Missions in New York, New Delhi, and the SAARC Secretariat.
Ambassadors and High Commissioners from Thailand, Costa Rica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Türkiye also presented their credentials during the ceremony.
