Tributes paid to Abdul Momen Khan; prayers offered for Khaleda Zia

A commemorative discussion and prayer gathering was held in Narsingdi’s Palash upazila on Friday, marking the 41st death anniversary of late Abdul Momen Khan, a founding member of the BNP and former food minister in the cabinet of President Ziaur Rahman.

The event also included special prayers seeking the recovery of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

The programme began at 3pm at the Palash Upazila Modern Multipurpose Auditorium, with BNP Standing Committee member and former minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan presiding over the session.

Conducted by Palash BNP Joint Secretary Bahaauddin Milton, the event drew nearly a thousand party leaders and activists. Among those present were Narsingdi-4 BNP candidate and district senior vice-president Shakhawat Hossain Bokul; Shibpur BNP president and freedom fighter Abul Haris Rikabdar; district Jubo Dal senior vice-president Shahan Shah Shanu; Palash municipal BNP president Alam Molla; district Jubo Dal general secretary Hasanuzzaman; and Palash Chhatra Dal member secretary Mostafizur Rahman Papon.

Speakers reflected on Abdul Momen Khan’s life of public service, highlighting his contribution to Narsingdi’s development and his legacy as an early architect of the BNP’s organisational foundation. They recalled his role in modernising local infrastructure and strengthening political activism in the region.

Alongside tributes, prayers were offered for the health and swift recovery of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who remains critically ill. Leaders expressed hope that she would regain strength and return to political life.

The programme concluded with a special munajat seeking forgiveness for the departed soul. Earlier in the day, a Khatam-e-Quran was held after Fajr prayers in Palash, dedicated to the memory of the late minister and the recovery of ailing Khaleda Zia.
