BNP’s Moyeen Khan calls upcoming election a “day of democratic revival”
Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, a member of the BNP Standing Committee and former minister, said on Monday that the people of Bangladesh, long deprived of their voting rights, are eagerly awaiting the upcoming national election.
“After 17 years of being denied their right to vote, 180 million people are waiting for the election day. The February election will mark the day of democratic revival in the country,” he told reporters.
Moyeen Khan made the remarks after submitting his nomination papers at the Assistant Returning Officer’s office for the Narsingdi-2 constituency.
He criticized the previous government, saying, “A fascist regime had imposed itself on the people of Bangladesh, stripping them of their democratic rights.”
Emphasizing BNP’s commitment to democracy, he added, “BNP is a liberal political and democratic party. We always believe in the rights of the people. When a responsible government is formed through free and fair elections reflecting the will of the people, true democracy will be established in the country.”
Also present during the nomination submission were Palash Upazila BNP President Abdus Sattar, General Secretary Saiful Haque, and Ghorashal Municipal BNP President Alam Molla. Earlier, Engineer Mohsin Ahmed submitted his nomination papers on behalf of Islami Andolan Bangladesh at the same office.
