Bangladesh Women Journalists Center has voiced deep concern over the rising incidents of child rape and rape-related murders across the country, demanding speedy trials and the maximum punishment for perpetrators involved in all such crimes, including the recent Ramisa case.

The demand came during a human chain protest organized by the organization in front of the National Press Club on Sunday afternoon, May 24. The demonstration brought together journalists, activists, and members of various media outlets under the slogan: “We Want No More Promises.”

Presiding over the program, the organization’s president Nasimun Ara Haque Minu said the alarming rise in violence against children has created fear and anxiety among parents and guardians nationwide.

She revealed that within the first five months of this year alone, 118 children were reportedly raped, while 17 children were murdered after being sexually assaulted.

Calling the situation “deeply disturbing,” she urged authorities to ensure swift justice through special tribunals and hand down the harshest penalties to offenders involved in the cases of Ramisa, Ira, and other child victims.

Speakers at the protest stressed that repeated assurances from authorities are no longer enough, insisting that visible legal action and effective punishment are essential to stop the growing trend of violence against children.

Leaders and members of the Bangladesh Women Journalists Center, alongside journalists from multiple media organizations, attended the protest and reiterated their call for urgent state intervention to protect children and restore public confidence in the justice system.
