PKSF Signs $70 million IFAD-backed GREEN deal to boost climate-resilient agriculture and rural entrepreneurship
Bangladesh has taken a major step toward strengthening climate-resilient agriculture, green entrepreneurship, and nutrition security, as the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) signed subsidiary loan and grant agreements with the Finance Division under the Ministry of Finance to implement the Growth for Climate Resilient and Environmental Entrepreneurship and Nutrition (GREEN) project.
The agreements were signed at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday. PKSF Deputy Managing Director Dr. Akand Mohammad Rafiqul Islam signed on behalf of PKSF, while Joint Secretary Mosammat Naznin Sultana signed for the Finance Division.
The project will be financed with $70 million from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)through the Government of Bangladesh.
Scheduled to run from 2026 to 2031, the nationwide initiative will prioritize regions based on poverty levels, climate vulnerability, and agricultural potential.
Around 260,000 people are expected to benefit directly from the project. Target groups include poor and marginal farmers, women and youth entrepreneurs, small-scale agribusiness owners, climate-vulnerable households, and members of ethnic minority communities.
The GREEN project aims to accelerate the development of climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable food systems, expand access to inclusive financial services, and strengthen institutional capacity.
It will also focus on promoting safe food production, scaling up climate-smart farming practices, increasing rural entrepreneurs’ incomes, and fostering sustainable production models.
Officials say the initiative is designed to support Bangladesh’s broader climate adaptation and rural development goals while creating new economic opportunities in vulnerable communities.
The project is also expected to contribute to the country’s growing green and creative economy by encouraging environmentally responsible entrepreneurship and strengthening long-term food and nutrition security.
