BASAD holds memorial meeting marking 8th death anniversary of comrade Zahedul Haque Milu
The Bangladesh Socialist Party (BASAD) organized a memorial meeting on Sunday to commemorate the 8th death anniversary of Comrade Zahedul Haque Milu, former member of the BASD Central Committee, former president of the Socialist Labour Front Central Committee, and former central president of Charan Cultural Centre.
The meeting was held at Vanguard Auditorium in Segunbagicha at 5:00 pm under the chairmanship of BASAD Central General Secretary Comrade Bazlur Rashid Firoz and was moderated by Central Committee Secretariat member Comrade Nikhil Das.
Speakers included Assistant General Secretary Comrade Rajekuzzaman Ratan, Secretariat member Abdul Quddus, Central Committee member Abdur Razzak, Principal Wazed Parvez, and Shampa Basu, among others.
Paying tribute to Milu, speakers described him as a dedicated organizer of Bangladesh’s left movement and a steadfast friend of the working class.

A
brilliant student with strong cultural interests, he embraced the ideals of a
discrimination-free Bangladesh inspired by the Liberation War and became active
in student politics during the 1970s through JASAD Chhatra League, leading
movements against authoritarian rule.
Following the formation of BASAD in 1980, Milu joined the party from its inception and devoted his life to the struggle for people's emancipation, abandoning prospects of personal advancement.
Leaders highlighted his significant contribution to the labour movement, noting his tireless efforts to organize workers and strengthen BASAD’s organizational base across the country.
Among his notable achievements was the formation of a textile mill workers’ union in Kurigram.

He
also served as adviser to motor workers, sawmill workers, rickshaw workers,
hotel workers, and construction workers’ unions. Milu held central
responsibilities in the Workers-Employees Unity Council (SKOP) and played a
role in fostering international labour solidarity through his association with
the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU). He was also a member of the
Kurigram District Bar Association and remained actively involved in various
social and cultural organizations.
Speakers recalled that Milu was critically injured in a road accident in 2018 while returning from Kurigram after organizational work. After battling for life for 32 days, he passed away on June 13, 2018.
The meeting concluded with a pledge to carry forward the struggle for a socialist Bangladesh free from exploitation and inequality, which leaders said would be the most meaningful tribute to Comrade Zahedul Haque Milu and his lifelong commitment to workers, peasants, and the oppressed.
