Noakhali police inspector accused of repeatedly raping 12-year-old girl
A severe allegation of sexual assault has emerged against Police Inspector Khorshed Alam, the In-Charge of the Jahajmara Police Investigation Center in Hatiya, Noakhali. He stands accused of repeatedly raping a 12-year-old girl by abusing his position of power.
According to the complaint, the victim’s mother and brother have long been employed as cooks at the police investigation center's mess. Due to this connection, the young girl frequently visited the premises. Inspector Khorshed Alam allegedly exploited this familiarity, tricking the child into entering his residence on multiple occasions.
Once inside, he reportedly subjected her to repeated sexual assault through a combination of coercion, false promises, and intimidation. The inspector threatened the child into silence, and the family chose not to speak out sooner out of acute fear for their safety.
The incident has sparked fierce condemnation from human rights advocates. Engineer Shampa Basu, President of the Socialist Women's Forum, and General Secretary Adv. Dilruba Nuri issued a joint statement demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of the accused officer.
"It hasn’t been long since the nation witnessed mass protests and the subsequent verdict in the Ramisa rape and murder case," the leaders stated.
"Yet, here we are again, and this time the alleged rapist is a Police Inspector. Because the victim’s family belongs to a marginalized working class, there is a deafening silence around this case. But if the protector becomes the predator, where is the safety for citizens?"
The leaders emphasized that simply withdrawing or transferring the inspector from his current post is a superficial fix, not justice.
They have called upon the administration and the government to ensure a fair, transparent legal process, warning that the accused must not be allowed to weaponize his institutional power to escape accountability.
