The rally of Mayer Dak hindered at Shahbag, police snatch microphone

Police have hindered the rally called by human rights organisation Mayer Dak, an organisation formed by the family members of the disappeared people, ahead of World Human Rights Day. Police snatched the microphone when the family members of the disappeared people started giving their speech.

At 11:10 am on Saturday morning, the participants of the rally were stopped by the police in front of the Shahbagh National Museum in the capital. Before this, a massive police presence was seen around the gathering place since morning. Organizers and participants officially started the rally at 11:30 am. At least 70 police surrounded around 35 participants standing with banners.

Amidst the situation, Anisa Islam Insi, the daughter of lumber businessman of Mirpur Ismail Hossain, who disappeared five years ago, gave the opening speech of the programme.

She started saying, 'I have had a new identity in the last 5 years. I am the child of a missing father. This rot has to be carried out for 5 years. Here you are, law enforcement, standing before us in uniform. Are you afraid of us? You are standing in front of us with sticks, will you beat us? If you want to beat us you could have disappeared us along with my father. Five years ago, my father went missing from his business in the Mala Road area of ​​Mirpur.'

Insi could not speak for a long time after that. The policemen present stopped her from speaking and took away the microphone from Insi's hand at that time, the police had an altercation with the participants in the rally. A few policemen present under the leadership of ADC Salman Farshi of Ramna Zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police stopped them. Later, in the face of police obstruction, the participants of the rally moved towards the press club.

The rally restarted at the Press Club at 11:46 in the morning.
