65 activists of BNP were sentenced to prison in one day

65 leaders and activists of BNP have been sentenced to imprisonment for different terms in two cases filed by the police on charges of sabotage and obstruction of police work.

This sentence was given in a different verdict in the Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka on Sunday. Among them, 40 people were sentenced in the case of Kalabagan police station and 25 people were sentenced in the case of Bangshal police station.

In 2013, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate announced the sentence of 40 BNP leaders and activists for one and a half years in three separate sections in the case of sabotage of Kalabagan police station in the capital. Court of Ali Haider in the verdict, acquitted 26 people as the charges against them were not proved.

The convicts are- Sirajul Islam, Shah Alam Saikat, Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Noman, Elin, Wasiul Hasib Anik, Palash Howladar, Amirul Bepari Chowdhury, Shafiqul Islam, Jahangir Hossain, Alamgir Hossain, Ripon Ahmed, Ashraful Islam, Shahparan, Mahmudul Hasan Rumman, Kamal, Farooq, Farhad, Ismail Sheikh, Jewel, Shafiqul Islam, Bachchu Mia, Rabiul Islam, Mostafa, Rubel, Rubel Hossain alias Sohail, Siddique, Faisal, Shahidul, Russell, Abdul Latif, Rubel, Monir Hossain, Riazul Hasan Russell, Rajiv Hasan Shiblu, Mahfuz alias Chanchal, Jasim Rana alias Jasim, Zubair Hossain, Anup Chandra Roy and Rabiul Islam Nayan.

According to the verdict, under section 143 of the Penal Code, 4 months rigorous imprisonment, a fine of 500 takas, 5 days' imprisonment without fine, under section 147, 1 year's rigorous imprisonment, a fine of 2000 taka, 10 days without hard labor, and under section 186, 2 months' rigorous imprisonment, a fine of 200 takas, without fine. 2 more days of imprisonment without work shall be served.

It is learnt that on November 13, 2013, the political case was filed at Kalabagan police station, alleging illegal assembly, creating riots and obstructing the work of government officials.

On the other hand, the court has sentenced 25 BNP leaders and activists to three years imprisonment under two separate sections in the case of illegal assembly and obstruction of police work in Bangshal police station area of ​​the capital. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Sheikh Sadi's court announced the verdict in the afternoon.

The convicts are - Sohail, Raju, Haji Siraj, Mamun, Roni, Moin, Haji Md. Machum, Galakata Azim, Omar Farooq, Razia Alam aka Razia Sultana and others. According to a section of the Penal Code, they were sentenced to two and a half years in prison, along with a fine of two thousand rupees, in default of which they were sentenced to another seven days in prison. In another section of the same law, imprisonment for six months, fine of two thousand rupees, and imprisonment for seven days in default.

According to the police, on September 6, 2018, the accused took out a procession in front of NCC Road No. 103 of Bangshal Police Station to demand the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. They vandalized cars, vandalized shops.

Azahar Hossain, sub-Inspector of Banshal police station filed a case in that incident. On June 30, 2019, the police investigated the case and filed a charge sheet in the court. The judge then charged the accused and ordered the trial to begin.
