Khaleda Zia returns home, urgently requires advanced treatment

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has returned home after a health check-up at Evercare Hospital in the capital. She departed the hospital at 7:30 pm on Thursday for the Feroza residence in Gulshan, arriving at her destination at 8:10 pm.

Upon news of Khaleda Zia's return home, leaders and workers from various organisations, including BNP, Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, and Swechchasevak Dal, hurried to the hospital and her residence, escorting Khaleda Zia's car fleet to her house in Gulshan.

Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, Joint Secretary General Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Aminul Haque from Dhaka North BNP, Women's Dal representative Helen Zerin Khan, and others were present at BNP Vice Chairman Khaleda Zia's residence in Gulshan.

Dr. Zahid later informed journalists, "Last Tuesday, she (Khaleda Zia) was admitted to Evercare Hospital due to physical discomfort. Following today's physical examination, she was discharged feeling somewhat improved. Various tests were conducted at the hospital from morning until 4 pm Subsequently, her doctors adjusted her treatment regimen.

The medical board formed by Evercare has advised that she can now receive treatment from home. Begum Zia finds it more comfortable to receive treatment at home than in the hospital.

Zahid said that Begum Zia has asked for prayers for health during Ramadan. She stated, "Begum Zia's physical condition is critical; either she needs a liver transplant. While she feels temporary relief with the provided advice, prolonged reliance on this is not viable. She was hospitalised for three to four hours on March 8, followed by visits on March 13 and a one-day stay on March 14. The medical board strongly advises prompt action regarding transplant treatment."

Khaleda Zia had previously visited Evercare Hospital for a health check-up on February 8, returning to 'Firoza' in Gulshan later that night. The 78-year-old former prime minister is grappling with various ailments, including arthritis, heart disease, lung issues, liver and kidney complications, and diabetes.

Earlier, Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital in the late hours of August 9 last year when she fell seriously ill. She received treatment under a medical board headed by Professor Sahabuddin Talukdar, a specialist doctor at the hospital, for five consecutive months. She returned home last January 11 with clearance from the medical board.
