Supreme Court Bar: Letter requesting BNP supporters including Barrister Khokon not to assume duties

The Nationalist Lawyers Forum has issued a letter to the president-elect Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon and three others from the BNP panel, who won the 2024-25 election, requesting them to refrain from assuming their duties at the Supreme Court Bar Association.

On Wednesday (27 March), the president of the Nationalist Lawyers Forum, AJ Mohammad Ali, and the general secretary, Barrister Kaiser Kamal, sent this letter.

The letter mentioned that a joint meeting of the senior central leaders, advisory council, and former presidents-secretaries of the Supreme Court Bar Association of the Bangladesh Nationalist Lawyers Forum was held. It was decided in the meeting to reject the results announced on 10 March following the Supreme Court Bar Association elections held on 6 and 7 March and to continue a just and logical movement for a re-election.

It noted, "In this context, it is being informed that you/you all will refrain from assuming responsibilities during the term of 2024-25 of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association. You/you all, as responsible leaders of the party, will duly comply with this party decision."

In the 2024-25 election of the Supreme Court Bar Association, candidates from the BNP-supported panel, including president-elect Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, won 4 positions. On the other hand, candidates from the Awami League panel, including for the secretary position Shah Manjurul Haq, won 10 positions.

The results were announced on 10 March by the senior lawyer Abul Khair, the coordinator of the election conducting committee.

The other three BNP winners in the executive member positions are Syed Fazle Elahi Abhi, Fatima Akter, and Md. Shafiqul Islam.
