Almost all AL leaders were on the run during the liberation war: Tarique Rahman

Acting Chairman of BNP, Tarique Rahman, stated that the Awami League has fabricated a scandal against BNP to conceal its own failures. He alleges that they are disseminating misleading information about Ziaur Rahman during the month of independence, despite the fact that the majority of their party's leaders fled during the liberation war.

He made these remarks during his speech as the chief guest at a discussion meeting held on the occasion of the 54th Great Independence Day. The meeting was organized for leaders and activists of all levels residing in the diaspora on Sunday.

He remarked, "Today, the Awami League claims that the declaration of independence was delivered to Ziaur Rahman, and he merely recited it. Why didn't they recite it themselves if they were the ones making the announcement? Sheikh Mujib's residence was at number 32. At that time, the Hotel Intercontinental in Shahbagh hosted over a hundred foreign journalists. Sheikh Mujib was at number 32 then. During that period, the East Pakistan Rifles (EPR) wireless communication was not under Bengali control; it was occupied by Pakistanis. Why did Sheikh Mujib send it to Ziaur Rahman instead of directly informing the journalists? He could have gone to Shahbagh and informed them personally, or he could have conveyed his instructions through intermediaries."

Tarique Rahman questioned, "Why do they feel compelled to resort to lies Today? The reason is clear: they had no plan."

He highlighted that the late husband of the prime minister of the dummy government, Wazed Miah, wrote in an article in Dainik Bangla on December 16, 1991, stating that he and his wife, Sheikh Hasina, heard Ziaur Rahman's declaration of independence. However, Wazed Miah was not the sole witness to the Declaration of Independence nor the only one who documented it. There is no record of any of them personally declaring independence.

Furthermore, he pointed out that after Ziaur Rahman declared independence, war broke out across the country. If Sheikh Mujib had declared independence on March 7, why did the war not commence on March 8? Instead, discussions with the Pakistanis have been ongoing since March 19.
